Tragically Bad Kiddie Lit

Click here to read about my favorite questionable children's books.  For some reason, I like it when truly inappropriate tales slip through the cracks.

Mostly because I'm sick.

  1. Great article! I think I must find the Pumpkin Giant book. It looks hilarious.

  2. I love weird children's books! One of my favourites is The Spider and the Fly, done in a 20's art nouveau film noire style. Absolutely beautiful, but my daughter was horrified when she realized that all the little wispy guys floating around were in fact murder victims. Moral? I don't know... Don't talk to strangers?

  3. I actually remember that pumpkin giant book--I think my brother may have had it. (This ws long before we had hundreds of titles come out at every holiday, so a book about a pumpkin stood out.) My favorites (and you are too young to remember these--it ws prior to Title IX and the ERA)are the gender-specific collections of short stories. As if all a girl had to offer someone was "butterscotch-colored hair."

  4. I'm going to see if I can get hold of the pumpkin Giant Book, it sounds like a great read.

My current favourite inappropriate children's book, is 'The Story of the Little Mole who knew it was none of his business.I mean a whole story about poo, how wonderful is that...? Okay maybe not that wonderful but it is very funny. My 3 year old nephew even has the 'plop up' edition.

  5. My gosh, that Little Fire Engine. If some kid had a bit of phobias about a burning house, that would about set them over the edge to have a smoke detector in every room of the house :)

    hope you feel better soon!

  6. Shades of SF humor in startling and keeping the children off balance.
